HOW SOON CAN YOU GET MARRIED?
TELL ME NOW!
CRAZY IN LOVE
How soon can you get married? Eloping or getting married in Australia isn’t like what you see in the American movies. You can’t trip and accidentally get married to a stranger nor can you meet the person of your dreams in a drunken whirlwind on Friday night and wind up hitched by Monday.
Australian Law doesn’t require too much of couples to be able to get married but it does want you to know that each person has known the other person they plan on marrying for at least a month (and to be consenting, and over 18, and not married to another person at the same time yadda yadda yadda).
So once you both have decided to get married there is a legal document called a Notice of Intended Marriage or NOIM to complete.
The NOIM needs to be filled out, signed in front of a witness (proper I.D like a passport will need to be viewed too and any divorce certs etc. if you have them) and then lodged with a marriage celebrant.
Once the NOIM is in the hot little hands of a celebrant the couple then have at least one month’s cooling off period to wait before a marriage ceremony can take place.
So if you and your love have your personal documents in order and are raring to go our Whiz Bang Weddings Celebrants can have you legally wed in a month!!”
“We had a small elopement style ceremony with our immediate family. Alana was absolutely amazing and exceeded our expectations!! She had us all laughing, crying and roaring (our two little boys favourite past time). We loved her inclusive attitude, especially with involving our kids and nieces into the ceremony. She honestly was key to making our day relaxed and fun!! Couldn’t recommend her enough!!” – Teegan
